Luis Sascilotto

(1924 - 2003)

Sacilotto was born in Santo André in the state of São Paulo. He was the son of Italian immigrants. After finishing school in 1943 he worked for Hollerith Brazil as a designer. At the same time he furthered his artistic career.While his paintings in the 1940s were figurative, by the 1950s he became an integral part of the concrete art movement and of Grupo Ruptura which was formed in 1952. He and Da Silva Mavignier exhibited together in that same year. Prior to this, he exhibited at the first São Paulo Biennale in 1951 and later at the Venice Biennale in 1952. He further exhibited at the Concrete Art exhibition in São Paulo in 1956 and in Rio de Janeiro in 1957. Sacilotto was also invited by Max Bill to exhibit at the Konkrete Kunst Exhibition in Zurich in 1960.
