This exhibition will take place at Mottisfont Abbey, in Hampshire, which houses the Derek Hill Collection. Derek Hill (1916-2000) donated his collection of 19th and 20th century pictures to Mrs Gilbert Russell, the donor of Mottisfont Abbey, which includes many of his own paintings alongside work by John Bratby, Derrick Greaves, John Piper, Graham Sutherland, James Dixon, Joan Eardley, Peter Lanyon, Alfred Wallis and others.
'New Connections' will see selected works from the permanent collection re-hung in a newly refurbished exhibition space in conjunction with associated Modern British works from Austin Desmond Fine Art. The aim is to illustrate artist's relationships and chief movements within the period of early Modernism in Britain, with the underlying theme of Derek Hill's paintings.
